Hardwood Care & Maintenance

Taking the best care of your hardwood

Even during a busy week in an active household, you can still care for your hardwood effectively. With inherent durability that can last for decades, hardwood can handle the action in your home. To make caring for floors even easier, we always recommend using mats near all entrances, and having footwear removed by the door during rainy or inclement weather conditions.

To make daily life easier, use area rugs throughout the home to protect your hardwood flooring from spills, dropped items, and tracked-in debris. It’s also a great practice to brush all pets frequently to reduce pet dander and regularly trim their nails to prevent possible scratches.

It’s extremely important to remove dirt and debris from the hardwood surface effectively in order to prevent abrasion. Sweep with a gentle bristle broom, dust-mop, or vacuum your hardwood floors daily or as frequently as possible. Make sure that any beater bars are disengaged from your vacuum beforehand.

When spills occur on your hardwood, it is important to act as promptly as possible! Gently lift any solid material with a spoon and soak up the liquid spill with paper towels or a clean, dry cloth.

If your hardwood manufacturer warrants your floor for mopping, use as little water and hardwood cleaner as needed, and ensure the floors dry in a reasonable amount of time. Check your hardwood warranty before using a Swiffer WetJet system.

For dried stains, use a gentle hardwood-specific cleaner and paper towels to remove them completely.
